Happy St. Patrick’s Day or whatever day you see this Natural Health Family. What a weekend of weather, but can you expect nothing less here in the Midwest? In many ways, we may think about the luck that seems to be bestowed on others and at times on ourselves. This could be at various times in our lives when we didn’t quite know how it was going to work out but it did. It seems like with our current understanding of health in this country and the chronic disease rates it is a matter of chance who gets well and who gets sick. However, this is a false understanding of what truly brings about health. Let’s discuss health and how it is not determined by luck.
Many people talk about genetics when it comes to our health. A person may say that his or her grandparents or parents have this condition so they worry or just accept that it “runs” in their family. However, if we look more closely at this premise we can see that it is built on a lack of understanding of what truly affects our health. The genetic theory is derived from our genes being the sole factor that shapes our health. However, we can see that many people don’t inherit the health issues that their family gets. Also, if we see it through the lens of evolving and adaptation, this theory makes little sense as it is in our best interest as humans to adapt to our environments and become stronger, not weaker. So what does affect our health? There are environmental stressors such as physical, chemical, and emotional stressors that can play a factor that influences our genes to produce certain proteins which are the building blocks of our bodies.
Therefore, when we make our bodies stronger (and positively direct our minds) we become able to adapt to that stress and maintain a state of ease rather than dis-ease.
When it comes to achievements, growth, or attaining what we desire, such as health, we often must let go of the old paradigms and embrace a new way. This allows us to be healthy, and strong, and maintain health even through the changes that life brings. Have a great day!
