Sunshine

Hi Natural Health Family! Imagine all of you are doing well or getting better. July has come and is almost gone. It seems time is moving fast as we head into the month of August. This week we are talking about the Sun and how it affects our health and well-being. Let’s shine some light on an important topic that seems to have more confusion in the public eye. 

Vitamin D has been known as the sunshine vitamin. When the sunlight hits our skin, the intelligence of our body converts a form of cholesterol that we already have into vitamin D. Of course this is a very simplified summary but nonetheless how it works. It is funny how we have been told to stay away from all foods with cholesterol but to know that it can be important for our health regarding sunlight and vitamin D synthesis. Intuitively or even inherently we know that the sun is an important or even essential part for our health. Without it we would not be here, and that goes for the rest of life on this earth. This is not to say that we should be careless and expose our bodies to the sun for amounts that our bodies can’t adapt to. We all are different in the way we take on the sun rays. We can be smart and take the actions necessary not to burn. But to make the sun as an enemy, as something that has been told to us to be feared and causes us problems can in itself be a problem. Just like laws, when you break them you can “suffer the consequences.” However, it is not a means of punishment but more so a direction that can help us to move forward. 

Many times we can be quick to assume or to blame things for causing certain issues without understanding how the issue came up in the first place. We have the ability to choose to see things in a different light, to question what is being said, and to take a positive path that makes sense to us. Enjoy your week!
